Mitch Madison is a life-long Pasco resident who went through the Pasco school system, graduating in 1971. Football, basketball, and baseball were the sports he loved to play. In 1974, while at WSU preparing for a teaching degree, he was asked by his older brother to help at the Pasco Invitational Track Meet. That first year Mitch shagged shot puts. Throughout subsequent years, he timed races and assisted in the javelin. This has been his location for 40+ years. As the years have gone by, he has also volunteered with the State Cross Country Meet at Sun Willows for all but two years and can still be found on the first fairway at the 1-mile mark. During the winters, he has helped with the Best in the West Wrestling Tournament as a timer for almost 10 years. Now the hospitality room is where he works, helping to make sure all coaches and referees are well fed and hydrated.
After graduating from WSU, Mitch spent his entire career teaching Pasco students at the intermediate level, retiring in 2014. In the early years of teaching, he coached many youth basketball teams through the Twin-City program. In his later years of teaching, Mitch, a cellist and lifelong pianist, was part of the district team that worked together to bring orchestra bask to PSD#1. On most Sundays, you can find him at church in Pasco, teaching Sunday school classes and playing the piano. He’s grateful to be a member of today’s multi-generational team of family and friends who affirm, support, and encourage young people in their athletic, life-building competitions. Mitch is proud of Pasco schools, thankful for his life within it as a student and a teacher, and grateful for this opportunity to give back to a community that has given him so much.
