Dedication: Don Wright

Don Wright has taught English in the Pasco School District at both Pasco High School and now Chiawana for 36 years. He was the newspaper advisor for the first 30. Throughout the years, Don served on multiple committees and helped with activities around the school. He has been a department chair for both English and AP/College departments in that time.

One of the primary areas of his involvement has been athletics.

He started helping with the Pasco Invite the fi rst spring he was in Pasco, 1989, as a race picker/timer, back when handheld devices were the common way of recording results. Soon, he served a couple years running the scoreboard before eventually becoming one of the announcers for the meet several years ago.

He has been a ticket taker and a table worker at sporting events but mostly he has served as the main announcer for Pasco and then Chiawana athletics. At Pasco High, he announced football (1997), volleyball (1993) and girls’ basketball (1996). Once he made the move to Chiawana, he announced volleyball, girls’ soccer, football, girls’ basketball, wrestling, boys’ soccer, track, baseball, and slow-pitch soft ball. In addition, he announced the WIAA State Cross Country meet for several years.

Don was born in Mount Vernon, Washington, grew up mostly in Ellensburg, Washington, and has lived in Pasco since 1988. His wife, Kathy, teaches Special Ed in Pasco and frequently volunteers alongside Don many times. They have 4 kids, Elaina, Elizabeth, Reese, and Corey.

Don loves teaching high school classes and working with our community and intends to continue working at Chiawana High School for many years.
