
Pasco Invite volunteer Dan Carey, who passed away on November 3, 2021, was a track, cross country and softball coach at Pasco High School for more than 25 years. Dan was born in Oakland, CA to James and Marilyn Carey, and moved to Pasco in 1957. As a young boy, he excelled in many athletic endeavors attending Robert Frost Elementary and Stevens Junior High. At Pasco High School, he was a varsity letterman in track, cross country, and baseball before graduating in 1968. The next year he was a member of Columbia Basin College’s first track and cross country teams. In 1973, he married Laurine Upton and they raised two boys, Justin and Ian. He and his wife had 4 grandchildren. Dan loved sports and coached the Pasco track team from 1985-2005 and girls softball from 2006-2010. He was a regular at all sporting events in the area and loved his Pasco Bulldogs.
